Designer Gene Bates carved intelligent risk-reward opportunities through mature cottonwoods and natural wetlands, particularly on the back nine where water comes into play on five holes. The 17th—a downhill par-3 over a pond to a peninsula green—separates pretenders from legitimate stick handlers.
