The high desert terrain carved dramatic elevation changes into every hole, with rugged canyon walls framing shots that demanded both precision and local knowledge. Pete Dye's architectural fingerprints were evident in the strategic bunkering and undulating greens that punished wayward approaches, while rewarding players who understood how the Santa Monica Mountain winds affected ball flight. Though no longer operational, this layout represented one of Southern California's most challenging tests of golf, where the natural landscape dictated play rather than artificial manufactured difficulty.
